The advantages of polycarbonate sheets are quite evident. They are lightweight, have high impact resistance, and are often used to build greenhouses, making transportation more convenient and cost-effective. With a relatively large surface area, users can customize them according to their specific needs. After choosing these sheets, users should also familiarize themselves with the instructions for use to ensure proper maintenance and extend their lifespan.
After purchasing polycarbonate sheets, users may notice tape on the edges, which many assume is for sealing and does not need to be replaced during installation. However, this is not the case. To ensure proper adhesion and mechanical strength, specialized tape should be used during installation. Below is an introduction to sealing and cleaning precautions.
Sealing precautions: Ensure that the edges of the sheets are smooth, all holes are clean and free of impurities, and the surface is dry. After installation, no exposed parts should remain.
Cleaning precautions: Pay special attention to cleaning. Use warm water at 60°C and choose neutral detergents. Avoid strong acidic or alkaline detergents, as they can damage the sheets. Additionally, do not use hard objects for scrubbing.
Polycarbonate Sheet Product Features:
(1) Light Transmittance: PC sheets can achieve up to 89% light transmittance, comparable to glass. UV-coated sheets resist yellowing, fogging, and reduced transparency even after prolonged sun exposure. After ten years, light transmittance loss is only about 10%, whereas PVC loses 15–20%, and fiberglass loses 12–20%.
(2) Impact Resistance: The impact strength is 250–300 times that of ordinary glass, 30 times that of acrylic sheets of the same thickness, and 2–20 times that of tempered glass. They are often called "unbreakable glass" or "resonant steel."
(3) UV Protection: One side of the PC sheet is co-extruded with a UV-resistant coating, while the other side has anti-condensation treatment. It combines UV resistance, thermal insulation, and anti-fogging functions, effectively blocking ultraviolet rays and protecting valuable artworks and exhibits from UV damage.
(4) Lightweight: With a density about half that of glass, PC sheets reduce transportation, handling, installation, and support framework costs.
(5) Flame Retardancy: According to the GB50222—95 standard, PC sheets are classified as flame-retardant (B1 grade). The self-ignition point is around 580°C, and they self-extinguish after removal from fire. They do not produce toxic gases when burning and do not contribute to the spread of flames.
(6) Bendability: PC sheets can be cold-bent on-site according to design plans to form arches, semi-circular roofs, and windows. The minimum bending radius is about 175 times the sheet thickness. They can also be heat-bent.
(7) Sound Insulation: PC sheets offer significant sound insulation, outperforming glass and acrylic sheets of the same thickness. Under identical conditions, their sound insulation capacity is 5–9 dB higher than that of glass, making them an ideal choice for highway sound barriers.
(8) Energy Efficiency: PC sheets keep interiors cool in summer and warm in winter. They have a lower thermal conductivity (K-value) than ordinary glass and other plastics, providing 7–25% better insulation than glass and up to 49% thermal insulation efficiency. This significantly reduces heat loss, making them suitable for buildings with heating systems.
(9) Temperature Adaptability: PC sheets do not become brittle at -40°C and do not deform at 125°C. Their mechanical and physical properties remain stable even in harsh environments.
(10) Weather Resistance: PC sheets maintain stable physical properties within a temperature range of -40°C to 120°C. After 4,000 hours of artificial weathering tests, yellowing is minimal (level 2), and light transmittance reduction is only about 0.6%.
(11) Anti-Condensation: At an outdoor temperature of 0°C and an indoor temperature of 23°C with relative humidity below 80%, the inner surface of the material does not condense. Any condensation will flow along the surface without dripping.
